New windows and doors needed for Village Hall
September 28, 2016

Window and external door upgrade – Kentisbeare Village Hall, Charity No 1052482

The Village Hall was opened in 1994 and has been very actively used for the past 22 years. During this time the softwood double glazed window frames have been biennially treated with Sadolin to protect against weathering; however, some wood has already been replaced and many exposed areas are deteriorating. In additional, several of the double-glazed units have lost the seal providing the insulation. Furthermore, shrinkage of the external doors is causing draughts and increasing security risks.

For these reasons the Hall Committee is intending to entirely replace the windows and external doors with low maintenance weather resistant upvc equivalents. The benefits are as follows:

1) Reduced Heat Loss; double glazed units now have wider gas-filled gaps to improve insulation, and better sealed external doors eliminate draughts. This also improves the comfort of those sitting close to Fire exits.

2) Improved Security: the locking system provided with modern doors is much superior to the worn mechanisms on the doors presently installed.

3) Less Maintenance: the biennial painting of the softwood is an on-going expense, which contributes to the Hall running costs, impacting on hire charges. Painting the high-level windows also incurs some safety risks.

The Hall Committee are aiming to provide a Village Hall fit for the 21st century, sustainable environmentally in terms of energy usage and sustainable to the public in terms of hire charges and comfort.

THE COST OF THE PROJECT IS 53K AND TO ACHIEVE THIS WE NEED THE FULL SUPPORT OF THE WHOLE COMMUNITY.
